For Opening Ceremony’s Fall/Winter 2015 collection, Co-Founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim shifted their focus to an unexpected medium: photography. More specifically, a series of previously-unreleased 35mm archival images by iconic filmmaker Spike Jonze that capture the spirit of ’90s cool. From action shots of BMX pros such as Mat Hoffman to portraits of Jonze’s favorite video girls Björk and Kim Gordon, each of Jonze’s photos give an unprecedented insight into the lives and careers of some of the iconic visionary’s most legendary peers.

A design reference of this caliber begs the question: How do you photograph a collection that’s inspired by photography? In our latest editorial contact/space—photographed by Isabel Asha Penzlien—the question is answered. Luxe jacquards and a rich, Kodak-approved color palette flow down cracked pavement sidewalks and skate ramps, mirroring the mix rough-around-the-edges characteristic, punk sensibility, and refined, classic tailoring present throughout the collection.
