When you go to Netflix.com, the website shows images of families smiling at each other, sitting together in big living rooms with tons of natural light. It also shows photos of people streaming shows on their iPhones or tablets on park benches on sunny mornings. None of these images seem realistic to me.
When I’m streaming movies at home, I mean business. I’m usually in bed with my favorite junk food and a glass of wine, laying in the dark giving my MacBook my full attention, whether I’m enjoying a full season of The Real Housewives of New York City, or revisiting a movie I watched in middle school that I forgot existed.
As a photographer, I am inspired by the things I see in my day-to-day life. Never in a million years did I think that one of these sources of inspiration would be the light of my television as it reflected off of my roommate’s face and prompted the rude question “Are you still watching Gossip Girl season five?”
I wanted the images in Opening Ceremony’s latest photo journal to emulate the trance that occurs when a viewer has been binge-watching. Although the images that I shot are set in the dark, they’re a little bit more realistic than what these online streaming companies are advertising. Plus, I don’t think staying in to watch the whole new season of OITNB ever killed anyone, right? Stream on.

Jenna’s attitude (and diet) is inspiring. I think that if most of us acted like our thirteen year old selves once in a while, the world would be a lot more fun.
An Idiot Abroad + a joint + Little Caesars
This is my go-to for a “Netflix and chill” night when my friends come over. This show is both amusing and educational.
HBO GO
The Normal Heart + popcorn + red wine
This one is a tearjerker, but it’s one of the best movies you can stream on HBO Go right now.
The Devil Wears Prada + $12 worth of Jarlsberg
While thankfully, I’ve never had a boss like Miranda, this movie taught me how to laugh at the people who are sometimes a little too serious on a set. This movie also introduced me to Dries [Van Noten].

The Real Housewives of New York City + Skinny Girl Margarita
I’m a little ashamed that I’ve fallen down the housewife rabbit hole, but I can’t deny the entertainment in seeing Ramona’s eyes pop out of her head. Sidenote: Why does it seem to be Fashion Week on almost every episode?![]()
