Sibling Fall/Winter 2014: London Fashion Week

The Emerald Isle and teen nostalgia were what inspired Joe Bates, Sid Bryan, and Cozette McCreery—the knitwear-crazed designers at Sibling—for their Fall/Winter 2014 collection. Each season the knits become wilder and the shapes more extravagant. This time we were met with sweeping gothic crocheted gowns, a stark contrast to the pristine looks from SS14 inspired by domestic suburbia. Although a few looks reminded us of the prim and proper themes of last season, this collection was a little more frayed around the edges. Aran knits with loose yarns and oversized crocheted ponchos were more representative of laid-back Irish bohemia than desperate housewives.

And would it be a Sibling show without some Fair Isle knits? Crystal embellished Fair Isle dresses matched with 70s-style floppy hats paraded down the catwalk in the pattern that has now become trademark of the Sibling brand. Designer Cozette actually featured herself in the collection—a pixilated portrait of her face was on a knitted sweater inspired by Lucian Freud's Irish Woman on a bed. Beauty themes included matte black nails and long tousled hair—a homage to the design trio's teen years.
