Juergen Teller Opens at Lehmann Maupin

On Friday, a new exhibition gathering three recent photo series by Juergen Teller opened at Lehmann Maupin in the Lower East Side. The only person smoking and drinking in the crowd was the artist himself, sauntering around and explaining his photographs to a curious audience. The photographs shown on the ground floor included those he shot for The Journal and 032c (featuring Kristen McMenamy). Upstairs was a series of portraits that included a nude Vivienne Westwood. There seems to be no limit between Teller's intimate, non-commissioned work and his commercial fashion images. Sometimes romantic and sometimes expressionistic (he obsessively dissects bodies twisted into erotic poses resembling Egon Schiele's subjects), his images are the result of a sensitive imagination at work that knows no artifices.

The show is on view through March 17th, 2012.
