Band of Outsiders Women's Fall/Winter 2014: New York Fashion Week

At first glance, it's a bit tricky to find the common thread in the women's Band of Outsiders Fall/Winter 2014 collection. But given that each model was wearing an extremely dark pair of sunglasses, perhaps that was the point. Scott Sternberg's muse this season evokes the image of an incognito Holly Golightly character, the sort of woman who has multiple identities—depending on who's asking—and is constantly on the move. Surrounded by a line-drawn background depicting an urban apartment in a state of disarray, long, lean vintage silhouettes were contrasted with large and boxy coats, with trompe l'oeil touches scattered about (a special favorite being the illustrated toggles and pockets on a shiny coated poncho). Voluminous fur and ruching were major players at the detail level, along with the varsity letter patch of a broken 'B'. Next to the requisite Band florals and bright tartans, a nod to surrealist artist Man Ray was made with a pattern of falling raspberries on the clothes as well as the invite, adding another layer of mystery to the question, "Who is the Band of Outsiders girl this season?" But perhaps the answer lies in the question itself—who says that she must be just one thing?
