It was T-10 until SUNO's spring runway show. Backstage, models were trying to have their picture taken with Tyson Chandler (who made a surprise appearance), while also having their hair finished (slicked back but natural) by super-stylist Odile Gilbert. I asked designers Erin and Max to sum up what we were about to see and they nailed it in a sentence: "maximalist African SUNO girl goes on safari." Minutes later, to a magical pulsing soundtrack, the models reemerged in structured shifts, sleeveless jackets, and tailored dresses patterned with everything from zebras to a bright tangerine madras. Bring. Back. Summer. In addition to sandals by Nicholas Kirkwood, the looks were accessorized with woven sun visors and a new addition to the SUNO repertoire: sunglasses. "We're really excited about them," said Erin talking about the line's debut collaboration with Linda Farrow. Other pieces that made you want to move to the Southern Hemisphere were a metallic floral brocade pinafore dress with crossover straps and a boxy crystal-encrusted blouse. Erin's own favorite piece though was the finale dress, an ivory shift made from a textured raffia-like jacquard and fitted with SUNO's signature extra-deep pockets. It was the perfect endnote to an elegant excursion.
