Last night, friends and family of OC converged on the SuperPier for the kickoff of our week-long, four night private event series: Sunset Takeovers! Held at OC BTW* (*by the water), our pop-up NYFW marketplace, Sunset Takeovers will be bringing you events curated by our favorite up-and-coming designers, showcasing their collections and favorite performers.
First up: designers Zana Bayne and Todd Pendu transformed the SuperPier into a dark world of bondage, goth, and voguing! Decked out in Zana’s leather harnesses, performers from the legendary House of Ninja mesmerized the crowd with their moves and poses to the raw and unadulterated beats of DJs CREEP, Njena Reddd Foxxx, and Slava. The party also featured a presentation of Zana’s SS14 collection, a collaboration with Todd Pendu of label PENDV. Inspired by alchemy and tarot card imagery, the provocative leather accessories draped over the models' barely-there clothing. Garnished with leather crowns, the girls appeared like princesses of the underworld. Here, Todd and Zana fill us in on last night's event and their plans for New York Fashion Week.
Shannan Elinor Smith: What was your approach to curating this Sunset Takeover?
Zana Bayne & Todd Pendu: We wanted to combine a presentation of our collection with a party; but it had to be something exciting and different, an event that you could immerse yourself in completely. We had already been talking with voguers from the House of Ninja about doing a party together sometime, so when this came up, they were naturally first on our list to ask. We invited our friends CREEP, and Njena Reddd Foxxx, and Slava to perform and DJ because we knew they could bring the right vibe and feeling to the event; bringing the bass, keeping it sexy, and inspiring the House of Ninja dancers as well as our models. We wanted people to see the leather collection pieces and then see beyond them into a lifestyle; we wanted them to feel our work in sound and movement.

What are your favorite designers, artists, musicians, people on Twitter?
Actually, we are all about Instagram. But here's a few that we love: @blkdnm, @ciara, @rossydpalma, @mxmttt, and @marceloburlonx.
If you opened up US Weekly tomorrow and someone was wearing your clothes, who would it be?
Rooney Mara, James Franco, Milla Jovovich, Megan Fox. They would all look pretty hot in PENDV x Zana Bayne leather.
What are you most excited about this NYFW?
Skingraft and Dominic Louis are each having their first NYFW runway show, though they've both been making amazing collections for years now—so they are high on our list. Another first this season is the Opening Ceremony show, and we are seriously excited about going to that one as well. I guess this year it's all about firsts. We're into it.
