OC x NYFW: Bellavance SS14

Bellavance's spring collection was a sherbert dream that debuted last night in a bright white room on the eighth floor of Milk Studios. This is only Nolan Bellavance and Ava Hama's second collection, but it has all the stamps of more experienced designers: flattering shapes, interesting fabrics, and a sophisticated range of pieces rounded out with a little playfulness. The collection was put together with the idea of three sisters in mind—the designs were arranged in trios—while the construction referenced New York City's ubiquitous scaffolding. Claire McCardell, a fashion designer who pioneered the "American Look" and artist Ettore Sottsass also played a role in the inspiration, especially through their use of stripes. A highlight of this season was the way Nolan and Ava used paneled striped fabrics to define shapes and create dynamic lines. The entire lineup was feminine, fresh, and perfect for warm days on New York streets.
