Today, on Korean Parent's Day, major model Hyoni Kang shares her favorite mommy memories.
Describe your most memorable Mother’s Day with your mom.
It's customary for children to make their parents paper carnations on Parent's Day (our version of Mother's Day, which celebrates both the mother and father). I remember pinning the flowers to their chests as a little girl. My parents would keep the flowers in our living room long after Parent's Day. I think I will make her a paper carnation this year, just like the old days! ^^
Describe your mom's style when she was younger.
My mom was interested in fashion as a young girl and used to subscribe to Vogue Korea. It's easy to spot my mom in old photos: she's the tall one with a perm. I look a lot like her when she was younger.
Favorite item from your mom's wardrobe?
When I was younger, I used to steal her clothes—especially her Burberry trench coat. Now we share clothes as we are almost the same size and have similar style. Her trench coat is still my favorite piece, to this day it's not outdated and has charm.
Favorite things to do together?
We hang out a lot: we eat out and watch movies—kind of like friends on a date. We had a great time at Freemans when my mom was in New York. The food was delicious and we talked for hours.
Favorite meal your mom makes?
My mom is a great cook so everything is delicious, but I always miss her Kimchi stew whenever I'm traveling.
What will you be gifting your mom this Mother's Day?
This Kaal E Suktae hooded trench coat is perfect for my mom's height and the colors are perfect for spring. My mom loves hiking and this wool hat by Patrik Ervell is perfect to protect her skin (and it's stylish!). She loves to style her outfits with a scarf, I can imagine her styling this Swash printed scarf with a white shirt (a staple in her wardrobe). Actually, I need to buy this for her immediately! And finally, my family and I are taking a trip this summer, this Mother of Pearl Thalassa sleeveless dress will be perfect for the beach.
