OC x LFW: Marques'Almeida FW13

Just a few months have passed since our last visit to the world of Marques'Almeida. In that time our girl has grown up and so has her wardrobe. The slash and fray approach to denim has evolved and now Marta and Paulo are applying their talents to luxurious silks and leather, creating a developed persona for the brand.

Taking inspiration from 90s icon Winona Ryder and the eternally cool rock band Skunk Anansie, the new silhouette is long and lean, evoking the mood of eveningwear but still holding on strong to their youthful, grungy aesthetic. The palette was more adventurous than in previous collections with a mix of deep red, dark blues, and soft creams—mirroring the optimism of the American spirit. The designers also experimented with layering, bringing a denim camo to the mix, proving that the Marques girl is still rough and ready. Jeans were worn long and trailed over pointy shoes.

The star of the show was the suiting: beautiful raw silk thrown together to create wide-leg pants with tailored jackets and slim-fitting trousers with structured blazers. Truly, this show was a re-education. The Marques character is graduating, and she can teach us all a lesson.
