Meet the Band: inc.

The band inc. is playing tonight at Le Poisson Rouge, and my anticipation for the show can only be described as on par with JLo’s emotional level in "Waiting for Tonight." Especially the "It’s perfect, it's passion / It’s setting me free" bit, which is what the experience of seeing inc. live feels like. Now inc. sounds nothing like JLo so get that picture out of your head––but if you’ve heard the band’s new album no world (which comes out today), you'll understand my emotional comparison to those lyrics.

People want to call inc.'s music modern R&B to clump it together with the slow jam revival that's going on these days, but as brothers Daniel and Andrew Aged, who make up the band, told me, that’s only a part of what they brought to the table in no world. Their sound is layered and complex, but subtle enough to play on infinite loop––which is exactly what we’ve been doing at OC since we first heard the album.

Daniel and Andrew stopped by OC last weekend to take a walk through Chinatown and chat with us. Check it all out here, and if you’re very, very lucky, go see them tonight. Otherwise, you can stream the album here!

Daria Radlinski:
Hi guys, how did your show go last night?
Andrew: It was good. It was our first time playing in Philly. We’d like to get some comedy involved in our show.

DR: Really? What kind of comedy are you thinking?
Daniel: Yeah, we're trying to find someone to do extreme physical comedy. We like to have a lot of laughter before we play; I think it would open people up a lot. Laugh therapy.

DR: Is that what you have in store for your European tour?
Andrew: Probably not! I don't know if we’ll ever actually do that. We're just excited in general about getting the show on the road. We might get to go to Russia, and we're doing a live session in England, which we're also looking forward to.

DR: I remember Mykki Blanco telling me that after touring in Russia with Daniel (Physical Therapy), he was impressed with the youth culture there. A ton of people are interested in the music being made in New York and LA.
Andrew: Yeah, definitely. Daniel told us that the other day, too. We're excited.

DR: Where are you guys from originally?
Andrew: We're from Monterey, CA––small town vibe in central California. We live in LA now.

DR: When did you start making music together?
inc.: We started playing together when we were really young, like 11 or 12. But we didn't really start making our own music till about four or five years ago.

DR: I heard that you guys were session musicians for the likes of Pharrell, 50 Cent, and Raphael Saadiq?
Daniel: Yeah, it was kind of our dream job going up. We started doing it when we were 11 or 12 and through high school, learning how to really play next to the people we looked up to. When we moved to LA, we started getting more and more opportunities and began touring with people. It would be anything from playing with someone for a day, to going on tour and opening for Beyoncé. The whole process
