OC x NYFW Camera Diary: Suno

In the bustle before NYFW, we dispatched cameras to a handful of OC designers. The aim: to see how many snacks, coffee runs, and late-night pizzas go into making a collection. So now that we've seen what came down the catwalks, it's time to take a peek behind the scenes!

The floor-length pieces that closed Suno's Spring/Summer 2013 presentation were show-stopping in every sense. So it's no wonder that they took their fair share of time to fit and fine-tune. Erin and Max documented all the legwork that went on chez Suno in the week before the show. Check out their snaps of fittings with Brian Molloy, model madness, and THAT cellphone print!

Alice Newell-Hanson: You're finished! We LOVED the show. How would you describe the spring collection?
Erin Beatty: Spring was an attempt at something extremely American yet undeniably modern. We examined vintage mini-prairie prints, classic Americana florals, and dainty linen stripes, but twisted them with oversized proportions and layered them on top of one another. We wanted to create something that was easy to digest and challenging all at once.

ANH: What was the biggest point of departure from fall?
EB: We reexamined the proportions: where the waistlines fell (higher, more cropped), the shapes (more square), and the lengths (more extreme).

ANH: Pieces you'll be wearing most next spring?
EB: Long skirts and full pants with either cropped tops or dress-length tunics over the top.

ANH: What kept you going during NYFW?
EB: Coffee, our team, discipline—there was no going out before the show—and continuing to exercise whenever possible. You can't change up your routine too much just because you have a show, you'd feel miserable for it. Just keep doing what you're doing, with a little less sleep!

ANH: What are you doing to cool down now it's over?
EB: Straight to work! Max went to Kenya to visit our factories, and I'm off to a fabric show in Paris and then to India to work on Fall/Winter 2013! Honestly, the best way to get over post-show sadness is to start anew...
