Patti, PJ, Charlotte—James Long's favorite ladies were written all over his Spring/Summer 2013 collection (the last of those three being his sister!). Like a kid genius doodling through math class, James covered his T-shirts in artful illustrated prints and his blouses with handwritten names. Even the embroidered squiggles that decorated the collection's A-line skirts were trimmed with patterns cut-out like notebook pages.
Because James always designs for the girls he know and loves (and who love him), this season he continued to develop his cult knitwear. New shapes included pencil skirts with textured stripes, worn with stomach-baring tops and shaggy cardigans—it was like a new kind of renegade twinset. Leather also popped up again to add to the bad-girl vibe. Zippered jackets with ruffled peplums and knit sleeves perfectly summed up the collection's blend of naughty and nice.
