OC London's manager, Dot, came over for a visit for New York fashion week. Check out her travel tips, Marques'Almeida FW12 pieces (coming soon to online!), and her J.W. Anderson pieces.
I'll admit it, I am fantastically bad at traveling. I leave things to the last minute and end up having to pack my favorite items damp in carrier bags, forget to check in online, and give myself an ulcer frantically filling out my ESTA forms on the Heathrow Express. These are all hallmarks of my many visits to New York. Read on to see how I prepared for New York Fashion Week.![]()

"For me, the most exciting part of going away is getting my hair and nails done! Right now my hair is bright blue but it needed a refresher. The day before my flight, I hit the salon to get my hair and nails in check. Once that was all wrapped up, I headed home to do my laundry and pack, but ran into friends and decided to fly by the seat of my pants, and go for an impromptu dinner instead. Five hours, 2 bottles of wine later, I made my way home and opted for bed over packing.”

"I'll start with my carry-on: I actually purchased this backpack at an army store on East Houston after my bag broke. Into it I cram my laptop, giant headphones, wallet, 8-hour cream that I use a gallon of every flight, makeup bag, eye mask, ear plugs, diary, reading glasses, 2 novels, orange YSL sweater (this is actually what I refer to as a “Fran-me-down,” a hand-me-down from my older sister, Fran!), and my snuggly knitted, fleece-lined socks that I bought in Darjeeling a couple of years ago."

"Aside from my makeup, which always goes in my hand luggage, I have a pile of cosmetics that I drag around with me. Among the most important is my nails kit. Nails are very important to me. I also always bring a supply of Wellness Formula. This stuff saves you from all travelling ills—it's crammed with every vitamin you can think of!"

"When I'm in New York I tend to walk everywhere so I stick to sensible shoes. My leopard-print wedges go with everything and are super comfy, then I have my J.W.Anderson trainer/loafers, which I can't leave the country without, and the new addition to my shoe collection, my Marques'Almeida fish skin shoes. They are my new faves, but they're heavy, so I'll travel in them. Bang. Done."

"On the day of my flight I woke up in good time, ready to pack, but I’d run out of coffee! No bother, it's a beautiful morning and I live just a 10-minute walk from a great coffee shop. I put on some laundry and strolled through the park, soaking up the early morning September sun, not giving a single thought to what I should be packing."

"Half an hour later, I arrive home with coffee and pastry in hand and I'm ready to get down to business. I have to leave in a little over an hour so panic sets in.”
