OC x NYFW: Patrik Ervell SS13

As the lights went down at Patrik Ervell's mens and womenswear show, a sweltering orange sun was projected onto the main wall. A hint of things to come as this collection was all about the elements. Citing Californian outdoor brands as his source of inspiration, Patrik presented a large collection, tallying 31 looks that included lightweight outerwear in laminated cotton and Ripstop nylon, ultraviolet flap back caps, and slim suiting in emergency orange. This message of function was further driven home with features like rubberized hardware, waterproof zips, and Teva-influenced footwear.

For the womenswear, he used a range of striking textiles like iridescent silk and petal-colored silk jacquards. Column and pencil skirts hit just below the knee, some with a slit up the front. Tops were cropped to meet the high-waisted bottoms—standout pieces included the quilted vest and kimono sleeve shirt. And this isn't to say that the menswear received any less love. Aqua-zip shirts had mock neck collars and sleeves in a contrasting granite print. Pants were double-pleated with a silk lining that revealed itself with every quick-paced step of the model. I spotted at least 3 blazer variations in marine blue, charcoal, and cream. Congratulations to Patrik and his team!
