OC x NYFW: Boy by Band of Outsiders SS13

I want to live in the world Scott Sternberg created for his SS13 collection. I want to wander through crystalline rock formations in a silk georgette dress, sarong skirt or drawstring pant. I want to listen to Jesca Hoop and let my hair fall the way it wants to (I'll hold off on the war paint). All this wishful devotion from someone who wouldn’t necessarily call herself a Boy by Band of Outsiders addict—more of an admirer.

How Scott manages to remove his menswear thinking cap and replace it with a womenswear sensibility is beyond me. There are of course elements of Band of Outsiders in the collection, seen in the olive green tailored blazers, but with fanciful embellishments like elegant silk faille collars, mother of pearl beading, and cascading coat tails. From blazers and loose and low slung pants (dressing you for an idyllic seaside stroll), the collection moved on to present silk epaulet dresses, cropped sleeveless shirts, the aforementioned sarong skirt with pleated insert, tie-dyed board shorts, and shibori-dyed kimono coats. But Scott saved the best for last, closing the show with gorgeous silk georgette variations—tunic, shorts, dresses, and draped jumpsuit—in what Scott described as a “war paint” print.

I loved the sandals: the result of a Band of Outsiders and Manolo Blahnik collab.

Looking cute, Codie
