OC x NYFW: Eckhaus Latta SS13

If there's one thing that Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta know how to do, it's make people stop in their tracks. OCNY shoppers who experienced the design duo's in-store installation (shown HERE) for their FW12 collection know what I'm talking about. It's hard to walk by a rack of clothing made of elastic mohair and the kind of plastic used in outdoor furniture without dying to touch it and get a closer look.

In their SS13 presentation this New York Fashion Week, the pair sprung some surprising materials on us yet again, including boucherouite (Moroccan rag rug), transluscent leather, rope, and sponge. The duo's affinity for turning convention on its head was felt in their collection's forms as much as its materials––spot their "perforated leather clogs," which eerily replicate Crocs. But the discomfort that Eckhaus and Latta draw forth with their creations works, and the result is a series of aggressively innovative and refreshing pieces––not unlike the super-hydrating fruit and veg juices that the audience was treated to at the AM presentation.

As for the models, they cracked open energy drinks labeled Eckhaus Latta and sipped them non-chalantly throughout the presentation. Disarmingly at ease, they lounged on rugs and air mattresses, casually mounted the treadmill that was present, congregated in groups, and even brazenly reversed the audience's gaze by snapping photos of the crowd with their phones and tweeting @ECKHAUS_LATTA. Check the pictures of all the action below.
