CULTIST is the online zine headed up by our LA-based friends RACHELYN REMZ-PORTER and Yasi Salek. Here, the pair sits down with Jayne Min and her pups Kuma and Pepper for 'Pet Psychology,' a series featuring OC pals and their cuddly friends!
Jayne Min isn't a fashion blogger. She's more of a lifestyle blogger who happens to be fashionable, in an very anti-fashion sort of way. Min started STOP IT RIGHT NOW in 2009 as a way to make me feel bad about myself and all of my outfits (which is not true but what I sometimes imagine in my head). The reclusive lover of all things pretty spends her days as a clothing designer and her nights perched atop a stack of freshly pressed black muscle tees, flanked by her super cute Pomeranians Kuma and Pepper. (The first part of that sentence is true).
What are the names and ages of your pets?
Kuma, Taurus, 1 year 3 months
Pepper, Libra, 10 months
When did you find Kuma and Pepper?
We got Kuma last summer and Pepper this past winter.
What's your favorite memory with them?
When Kuma was a baby, she used to love crawling into super tight spaces. She would crawl through the panes of sliding glass doors and get sandwiched and all Damien Hirst sliced horse-like. And then she would wiggle like she was walking through the air.
How did you decide upon their names?
Kuma looked like a bear when we first got her so we named her the Japanese word for bear. Pepper actually already had a name when we got her. Drumroll... "GUCCI BEAR FROM THE H BLOCK." It took us a minute to figure out a suitable alternative. In the end, we just went with my brother's suggestion.
What do you, Kuma, and Pepper talk about?
They are concerned about my spending so it's mostly about how I should save for a house. And eat more fiber. Such nags.
What's your spirit animal? What are their spirit humans?
My spirit animal is a sloth. Kuma's spirit human is Little Man Tate. Pepper's spirit human works the drive-thru at Burger King and LARPs.
Draw me a portrait of them!!
(See left.)
Where is Kuma and Pepper's favorite place to sleep? What do they dream about?
They usually sleep around our faces. Most mornings, I wake up with a butt in my face or a paw on my cheek. Kuma has night terrors rooted in her anxiety of us leaving her. Pepper dreams of food, probably.![]()
