Last Friday, The Hole presented "...", a group show featuring work by Kadar Brock, Matt Jones, Sam Moyer, and Scott Reeder. The works explore new considerations in abstraction, making use of bleach, dye, spaghetti, lentils, razors, and gobs of paint—all without a brush. Each artist's style is distinct: from Brock's spray-painted canvasses, to Jones' galactic infinities, to Moyer's distressed swaths of cloth.
Alongside the quartet, Lola Montes Schnabel showed a series of five paintings from the past year in her first US solo exhibition. Schnabel uses a limited palette of five colors (rouge, teal, white, black, and tan) to portray two androgynous figures in “a time of love before sexuality.” The outcome is a feminine narrative of innocence, youth, and sex.
"..." and Love Before Intimacy are on show now until February 4, 2012.
