Andrew & Peter Sutherland's Native Intimates

Deep inside a Chinatown corridor in New York City (past the Yummy Noodle restaurant) is an abandoned cell phone shop-turned-gallery that houses Native Intimates, a show of photographs and sculpture pieces by the artists and brothers Andrew and Peter Sutherland. The exhibition of scattered art, in what seem to be both random and thought out positions, is loosely based on the idea of an African import store. Some sculptures look like authentic handmade crafts while others reference highway debris. One sculpture alludes to an ant hill the brothers came across while traveling in Uganda. "I hope the show makes visitors think of disjointed bits of American culture and foreign culture bouncing back and forth, via a dodgy import store or via the Internet." Hightail it over to the Bowery to get the free zine made for the show before it closes tomorrow!

June 1 through June 7, 2-7pm.
