Last night I ran over to Dashwood to catch Juergen Teller’s book signing event. The sun was shining and all signs pointed towards a warm evening as I waited patiently in line with throngs of fellow Juergen-ites. Waiting for us at the front of the line, Juergen sat cool as a cucumber and eventually signed what must have been tens of copies of his many publications. All this, while the Dashwood staff hustled to fill empty hands with books and beers, mostly both. With time to kill I thought about some of Juergen’s iconic images: a young and hysterical Kate Moss tucked up in bed wearing only pink tresses; his shots of Nirvana for Details circa 1991; ad campaigns with Marc Jacobs and Vivienne Westwood; and candid moments with a seemingly ageless Charlotte Rampling—all in his signature aesthetic.
I was lucky enough to snag the last book (!) in the shop and enjoyed a lovely albeit brief exchange with Juergen—after more than two hours at his post, he must have been simply worn out. I walked home not minding the rain one bit with my signed copy of Calves and Thighs tucked safely away in my bag.
