'Craft Goes Machine': J.W. Anderson SS12

Titled "Craft Goes Machine," J.W. Anderson's spring collection comes accompanied by a nine-part video operetta. And because no one but the slightly eccentric Londoner would combine a picture of Margaret Thatcher with a video of milk bottles and a symphonic soundtrack, we've included some of the trippily beautiful snippets below. Enjoy!

As for the collection itself: as the name suggests, the craftsmanship is on another level. After his visit to OCLA, Jonathan flew over to OCNY to lay down some knowledge. Hand-stitching the panels of multicolor leather on the striped leather jacket, for example, was no easy task. "I'd never had cause to use rivets before, so I just thought let's use lots of them," he explained. The collection as a whole is a deliciously warped combination of deranged housewife and rebellious schoolgirl. Nerd up on the pieces with our class notes below!

swan tank in white and silk wrap skirt in paisley. The swan tank is covered with super-fine tufts of silky nylon. Jonathan wanted to achieve a fluffy effect similar to the phenomenal angora knits from his FW11 collection, but in a fabric that would be light enough for summer. For added airiness, it has a sheer mesh back!

STRIPED LEATHER JACKET in white/pink. Inspired by the weird color combinations on American varsity jackets, Jonathan decided to make his own kind of letterman, in candy-striped pink, burgundy, and white leather.

STRIPED SHIRTING VEST in blue/white.
