School-Wear For Rude Gyals

School-wear is making a fierce resurgence. I myself have been guilty of repurposing my OG lacy bobby socks from primary school, and wearing them with a pair of obnoxiously chunky platforms or Nike Air Max sneakers. London-based accessories brand Pum Pum Socks give the classic frill socks a much-needed update in a butter-soft cotton that's easy to wear—and easy on the eyes.

Founded by former Editor of Suitcase magazine Savannah Baker and stylist Gemma Shane, the label melds kitschy Harajuku vibes with Jamacian rude gyal sensibilities. The brand pays homage to empowered women in the Dancehall scene—with the name "Pum Pum"—which quite literally translates to "vagina" in Jamaican Patois and represents a sense of confidence and inner-rebellion.

In a 2014 interview, Savannah Baker told LargeUp mag that the brand is made for "the gyals of Jamaica and the world who represent femininity and strength." From the supa-kawaii Candy Ragga Socks in candy-pink cotton and soft-purple organza to the next-level Carribbean striped Lioness Socks, this limited-edition collection was crafted with the good-girl-gone-bad in mind. Bomboclaat!
