With the oversaturated market of fashion photographers crowding into events, do the hi-res images truly have the same personal effect anymore? We decided to switch things up and peep the Opening Ceremony Fall/Winter 2015 presentation moments not through the seasoned view of a fashion editor or street style photographer, but through the eyes of a skate legend thrown into the mix.
Enter anarchic skate legend/zine-producer extraordinaire, Mark Gonzales.
In addition to having his face plastered on multiple Spike Jonze photographs during the event (one of which was developed into a Fall/Winter 2015 tee now available on Spring), Gonzales also created a limited-edition zine that was available at the event. In his zine, Gonzales talks about his appreciation for his pal Jonze and goes on to say, "I started off writing things that were actual facts about Spike, but when I got to the end, I realized that the photos were the facts. What I've written here is really about my relationship with Spike. The fact is, he likes to take photographs. Plain and simple."
We figured it was The Gonz's turn to take the photos. Armed with only a Kodak disposable camera (plus an OC-Exclusive Mophie Varsity Jacket), the end results are just as raw and uncensored as you'd imagine. Who knows? Perhaps Vogue will make a move in the skater-as-fashion-documentarian direction in the future. Take note, Anna.
