Show: KTZ
Location: Milk Studios
Winning Look: Neo-futuristic, fringed floor-length robe paired with a shell cap bearing a stiff leather feather, embellished platform mules, and signature KTZ disk earrings.
Inspired by: The collection drew upon Indo-American traditions, as well as the empowered, self-sufficient nature of the “primal woman.” Rooted in the ideals of “abundance,” designer Marjan Pejoski worked lavish textures and feminine shapes into his inaugural NYFW collection. The garments were swathed with Navajo and Apache iconography (as well as geometric patterns in primary colors), while accessories included reworked woven chest plates, thickset Zuni necklaces, and beaded neck-rings.
Reminded us of: Dances with Wolves-gone-couture. The caps reminded us of feathered Native American chief headdresses.
Wear it to: The oversized tapestry robe looks like a cozy-cool dream, made to be worn all winter long.
Spotted: Whoopi Goldberg, Jhené Aiko, The Cobra Snake, Fabolous, TK and Cipriana Quann, plus a man wearing a head-to-toe archival Comme Des Garçons polka dot pant suit and top hat.
Overheard: “Woah, Fabolous looks just like Slick Rick these days.” Front Row Quote: “That was explosive—like a breathtakingly beautiful rainbow!” —Icelandic artist Hrafnhildur Arnardottir aka Shoplifter
Soundtrack: Tribal drums re-rubbed into a futuristic techno/house melody.Photos by Derek Anthony Welte
