Last night we celebrated the art of film photography with a Fall/Winter 2015 collection that paid tribute to Humberto and Carol’s longtime friend Spike Jonze. Unearthing the multi-hyphenate’s archive of personal photography, we translated never-before-seen, 35-millimeter candids into an offering of unexpected fabrications. Picture outtakes of Björk, Chloë Sevigny, Kim Gordon, and the Beastie Boys fashioned into cut-collages, Jonze’s intimate doodles transformed into jacquards and prints, and abstract contact sheets patterned on Lurex tanks.
As another homage to archival film, the collection builds on the instantly recognizable colors of Kodak, the storied technology brand, with an autumnal palette of camel, ivory, fern green, burnt orange, and navy. Even the easy-to-wear silhouettes conjure the analog era with menswear-inspired shirt coats, turtlenecks, boxy tops, and flared culottes. Meanwhile, rabbit fur coats layer over elongated rib knits, all cinched together by skater belts—an ode to Jonze’s role in documenting OG skaters and BMX pros like Mark Gonzales and Mat Hoffman, to name a few.
Handbags and footwear echo a similar palette of orange and caramel brown, with accents of custom marble leather, tiger-flocked suede, and zebra-printed pony hair. Platform oxfords, boots, and pumps feature stacked heels and functional zip-up details, reinforcing a sportive yet lady-like vibe. We also introduce the Helix cross-body bag and circle-handled totes—a new Opening Ceremony signature reminiscent of camera lenses.
The presentation also featured a few looks from the men’s side, including the Sonic Youth jacquard knit, sweats printed with B-roll stills from the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” video, and the exclusive tees girls and guys can score now on the Spring app.
