Veronique Branquinho Fall/Winter 2014: Paris Fashion Week

As fashion leans more and more towards gender-neutral looks, the latest to try her hand at mixing masculine and feminine is Belgian designer Veronique Branquinho with her Fall/Winter 2014 collection. The show began with well-tailored visions of Black Watch tartan floating down the runway; the Scottish fabric was the catalyst for this season's color palette and designs. Pulling inspiration from traditional tailoring techniques, specifically those of England and Scotland, Veronique proffered the typical menswear looks of pinstripe blazers, checked duffel coats, and plenty of houndstooth. But long, loose bottoms, metallic bomber jackets, vibrant Fair Isle patterns, and pops of electric blues and reds against the otherwise dark collection kept the Savile Row influences from totally taking over. Although Veronique's collections always have subtle boyish undertones, this is the first season that they've been so blatant. Still, even in pinstriped jackets, the Veronique Branquinho woman is sophisticated enough to keep us coming back for more.
