Acne Studios Fall/Winter 2014: Paris Fashion Week

The official press release for the Acne Studios Fall/Winter 2014 collection has a quote from creative director Jonny Johansson, waxing poetic about a crisp walk on the beach as autumn transitions into winter. Despite the distinct lack of beaches in Paris, the inspiration was at high tide inside the Palais de Tokyo. After a few seasons of either very structured, utilitarian looks or wind-swept, draped pieces, Jonny has created the ultimate balance between the two, with soft but shapely silhouettes mixed with molded but not immobile detailing. Seaside hues of sandy beiges and oceanic blues and greens swirled across garments, mimicking waves. Midsections cozied up to thick, structured fabrics, which were draped around the models' torsos like the warmest wool blanket. Hems were mostly kept long, covering hands or hitting below the knee, and conspicuously oversized toques promise to not only keep your ears warm, but shield your eyes from bitterly frozen winds. And of course, the shoes. This season, footwear features are bluntly square-toed in suede and leather of powder blue, bronze, white, and more—some with heavy lug soles, perfect for kicking along the shoreline.
