Christopher Kane Fall/Winter 2014: London Fashion Week

Continuing the designer's penchant for pulling from a scientific setting for inspiration, the Christopher Kane Fall/Winter 2014 collection was inspired by protective shoe safety covers, the type worn in hospitals and abattoirs. Perhaps a bit morbid, but Christopher Kane nonetheless proved once again that he has a knack for taking something ordinary and turning it into an astounding array of glamorous garments.

The collection was a fluid display of color; from pretty pinks and liquid black patent to neon pops of lime, each look lead into the next one like a storybook. Fitting then, that the designer created organza dresses that were inspired by flip books, and in another look cleverly cut-out dress sleeves that spiraled around the model's arms. Textures of furry pink shearling, mink, and lace were juxtaposed against unexpected shiny black PVC and waterproof nylon surfaces. The ruching and texture of the wipe-clean nylon shoe covers formed nearly half of his collection, but a sprinkling of frills, bows, and ribbons across the clothes kept it from being too clinical.
