If there's anyone who has mastered uptown-downtown wardrobe mixing, it's Mark McNairy, a fact the designer proved again with his Fall/Winter 2014 collection. The inimitable combination of collegiate shapes with an off-campus twist has allowed McNairy's brand of classic cool to transcend genres, attracting everyone from discerning editors to trendsetting rappers to fashion-conscious frat bros. Mark appreciates and uses this universal appeal to his advantage, inviting non-models to walk his runway each season. Last season we famously saw Pusha T strut his stuff; this season New York native Cam'ron closed out the show with his fiancée JuJu by his side. But while Killa Cam was a highlight, the collection was definitely the show's star. In the designer's own words, he was inspired by the music of "Miles Fuckin' Davis," which shone through with terrifically modernized 1950s styles. Pinstripe trousers were given an athletic cuff, bowties accompanied slim-cut semi-formal looks, and tweed was ubiquitous. The women's line showed comfortable unisex basics, modeled by Mark's daughter Daisy and niece Bailey. Finished off with caps and signature suede bucks, the collection reflected the chill energy of Miles Davis' jazz tunes perfectly.
