Singer, Saint Records label boss, actress, mother—as if Solange Knowles wasn’t already SLAYING everything she touches, the 27-year-old Texan has now added PUMA creative consultant to her laundry list of accomplishments. The move was announced back in November via her tumblr, where Solange explained that after years of art directing her own music videos (including her most recent “Lovers in the Parking Lot,” shot in a flea market-turned-dancehall back in her hometown of Houston), photoshoots, and web content among other countless projects, her PUMA partnership is the perfect platform to fully incorporate her love of all things design.
Her first move as the creative consultant for PUMA's women's lifestyle category, Solange's inaugural “Girls of Blaze” project brought together three of her favorite New York designers—Gerlan Jeans, William Okpo, and Hisham Bharoocha—to interpret one of the brand’s most beloved models, the Disc. Launched in 1992, PUMA's Disc System scrapped traditional shoelaces, instead developing a novel closure technology: by rotating the dial, runners can tighten and loosen up internal wires in the shoe for a super custom fit. Now in its first season as a women’s collection, each of Solange’s Disc styles channel her respective designers’ aesthetics through the sights and sounds of Brazil.
Unsurprisingly, the "Girls of Blaze" lookbook has Solange's style stamped all over it. Shot in New Orleans by Alan Ferguson, the perfect pairing of bright, bold color-blocking and simple silhouettes work as the ideal complements to the sneakers' vibrant, complex textures and technical touches. The PUMA x Solange Disc Collection is available exclusively at OC New York, Los Angeles, and online as of today!
