In THE LOOK OC friends drop by to try on our favorite new arrivals and tell us about their wardrobe preferences past and present.

This week, the ridiculously cute Kay Kasparhauser, front woman of the self-proclaimed “ridiculously adorable” band The Prettiots, stopped by OC to talk about music, fashion, and growing up in New York City. The Prettiots evoke a classic Shangri-Las-esque sound with a 90s Cake Like/Slant 6/Helium edge, which, in my opinion, is a dream concoction. To make matters cuter, Kay has mixed up the standard guitar, bass, and drums setup by replacing her guitar with a ukulele. With tracks like "Dream Boy" (“Won’t you please just be perfect right away, not too nice or too mean and hopefully not gay”) and "Stabler," a song referring to the fictional Law & Order character, you really can’t go wrong with The Prettiots. Not only is their music the kind of pop that sticks with you, but it’s also wildly entertaining.

Name: Kay Kasparhauser
Hometown: New York City
What look are you into at the moment? Babysitter on stage. Undercover detective trying to stay low key during the day.
What look were you into in high school? Someone once called me a "neon corpse." I wore a lot of bathing suits to school. I was sort of insane.
Most regrettable fashion moment? Giving away my perfectly thrashed Charged GBH shirt.
Your three wardrobe essentials? Wife-beater, white Chucks, and black jeans
Your three wardrobe wishes for spring? Figure out what color my hair is going to be and [hope] that my dresses I have been wearing since ninth grade survive another spring. That’s it.
Most prized piece in your wardrobe? My Law & Order crew bomber jacket that my boyfriend gave me.
Favorite spots to shop? eBay, Tokio 7, About Glamour, AcnE Studios, CVS
What’s your favorite thing to wear on stage? Tiny dresses, tennis shoes, and hoops
Do you think music and style go hand in hand? For me, definitely. My band has a specific aesthetic that goes with our music.
When did you first start playing music? I started playing piano and singing when I was in middle school. I started playing bass/ukulele and writing after high school.
Tell us about The Prettiots. We are three ridiculously adorable girls from NYC, myself, Rachel Trachtenburg (drums), and Lulu Prat (bass and vocals). We sing pop music about everything we love and hate.
Do you feel being raised in NYC gave you a leg up as far as your musical tastes and influences go? I was definitely exposed to a lot of different stuff from a very early age, and being in NYC gave me the resources to explore and develop my tastes, both musically and stylistically, in more depth than I would [have] anywhere else. My bandmates are a testimonial to that too, they are both super young (18 and 20) and are two of the most developed people I know.
Do you think there are any specific challenges you face as a female musician? Our whole image is super young and super feminine; we play into that a lot, usually to our advantage. It’s irritating when people assume we only listen to girly pop because we all m
