Sparkle & Shine: The Opening Ceremony Glitter Collection

Remember how the movie Glitter starring Mariah Carey was a phenomenal box office flop? Well despite this, I still had the soundtrack, the poster in my room, and the song she recorded with Mystikal as my go-to shower-singing tune. (The Mariah part, not Mystikal's.) I somehow never ended up seeing the movie, but there was still something about its cover––the skin-tight, shoulderless white top, the wind in the hair, "Glitter" outlined in red sparkles with a shimmering star dotting the "i" like a beacon in the North sky lighting the road to glamour––that was irresistible to me. Taped up on my bedroom wall, it seemed perfectly at home with my pink glitter inflatable chair and foot rest, which I loved, regardless of the lopsided discomfort and offensive noises you had to endure when you actually sat on them.

Mimi would later come out and blame September 11th for the film's epic failure, and you can agree or disagree with that. (My two cents? The North Korean women's soccer team thought it could take a page out of Mariah's book in 2011, when it claimed its 2-0 loss to the US was due to the team getting struck by lightning. Hmmm...) But back to Glitter. The real question is: would the movie have fared better had it included pieces from the new Opening Ceremony glitter capsule? I'd like to think yes.
