This year, photographer and OC friend Ryan McGinley took over the Opening Ceremony Instagram and posted his favorite works from Art Basel Miami Beach. Check out what he had to say about his eighth ABMB, his favorite Miami diner to hit up, and more.
This is my eighth year at Miami Basel; I'm kind of a veteran. If you make Miami work for you, it works. I'm not a big party guy, I actually love looking at the art. The first thing I do is make an Art Basel playlist. Listening to music on some noise-cancellation headphones while looking at art is key. It helps stop people from talking to you so you can make your way through the fair without having a thousand and one conversations. Make sure you have an extra charge for your phone, because you'll be taking a lot of photos.
Next is getting a scooter. It gives you complete freedom to go as you please, never wait in traffic, park wherever, and feel the warm wind in your hair. I always stay at the Standard Hotel because it's off the main Collins crawl and I get to have Turkish hammam time to relax. La Sandwicherie is my healthy spot to go to eat whenever I'm hungry. They make great coffee too. I like to make it a tradition to hit Jerry's diner every year with friends and get a big, red, cushy booth.
