The Look: Street Etiquette

In "THE LOOK," OC friends drop by to try on our favorite new arrivals, and tell us about their wardrobe preferences past and present.

When meeting the duo behind Street Etiquette, it's no surprise the name is now synonymous with good style. Travis Gumbs, an OC alum, and Joshua Kissi met in high school and started their site in 2008 as a way to showcase their shared passion for menswear. Their website has gained a major following, with readers flocking to them for lifestyle inspiration and tips. Street Etiquette has been featured in major publications like the New York Times and is spearheading collaborations, such as Bevel Etiquette, an online guide to male grooming, and Slumflower, a short film about 10-year-old boy who "finds beauty" in his inner city environment. Constantly inspired by their style, I wanted to get the inside scoop on their recent move, travels, and the contents of their closets—so I invited them our studio to try on our new favorite pieces.

What look(s) are you into at the moment?
I think what we are always inspired by: incorporating different styles into one and finding comfort there.
What look(s) were you into in high school?

In high school it was all about streetwear, so Levi's, sneakers, and graphic T-shirts.
Most regrettable fashion moment?
Travis: I don't think any look was regrettable, each look personified me at that certain moment.
Joshua: I would also agree with Travis, each look I was interested in built my personal style today.
Your 3 wardrobe essentials?

Travis: Great denim, a white oxford, brogue shoes
Joshua: Khaki trousers, shawl sweater, oxford shoes
Your 3 wardrobe wishes for fall?

To be honest, I don't think we need anything more at this point, but maybe cool sweaters.
Most prized piece in your closet?

Travis: My Black Ivy parka that has yet to be released.
Joshua: My rings.
Favorite spots to shop?

Opening Ceremony, of course.
Congrats on the move from the Bronx to Brooklyn! What prompted it?
Thank you! We wanted to explore things around New York City, as most New Yorkers seem to stay in the borough they're born in. I'm unsure if we will stay in Brooklyn for the rest of our lives, but for right now and the way we want to build our brand for the future, it makes perfect sense.
It looks like you're working on a lot of different projects outside of Street Etiquette, like Slumflower and The Bevel. Can you dish on these projects and the inspiration behind them?
We have so much planned to be honest! It's taking lots of time to get everything completed the way we want to and that's the hardest thing I think, because you don't get that time back. Slumflower is a short film that we produced in collaboration with VSCO. We actually just finished filming this weekend. I truly think it'll change the idea of what a "fashion film" is, as films on style always lack some type of potent message, and it was important for us to create one.  Bevel is our latest endeavor revolving around men's grooming. We saw a gap in the way guys are retaining information on grooming t
