OC x LFW: Marques'Almeida SS14

It's often said that Marta Marques and Paolo Almeida produce collections that look like what we wore in the 90s and 00s. But in my experience the pair's knack for blending nostalgia with excellent design invariably delivers a collection which far outguns any attempt at style I made in my teens.

This season saw the duo reflecting on the aftermath of a millennium celebration—through grungy oriental glasses. Silk kimonos were draped over jeans, which were worn loose and low on the hips.  Denim jackets came with mandarin collars and long flowing silk tunics were a cross between traditional Japanese robes and wardrobe options for a Björk music video.

The spring color palette was more varied than in previous seasons, as was the mix of fabrics and textures. We saw acid brights, cow hides, and exotic skins. But most excitingly, the duo has added bags to its repertoire—a style- and business-savvy decision no doubt. The spring Marques'Almeida girl is out to have a good time, and she's going to look damn fine doing it!
