OCLA's adventurous sales associate Lindsey recently hightailed it to the abandoned socialist colony of Llano Del Rio, California!
Last Sunday, my boyfriend and I drove out to the desert in search of a ghost town by the name of Llano Del Rio, on the edge of the Mojave Desert in California. Llano Del Rio was an attempt at a socialist colony in the early 1900s, but the communal paradise lost its splendor due to the harsh desert conditions: drought came, the water supply went dry, and everyone either died or abandoned all hope, forcing the group to desert it all. Its crumbling stone structures that remain have a spooky feel to them and make for some fun exploration despite the 100-degree heat.
Not too long after snapping some photos in the now graffiti-covered stone walls of Llano Del Rio, we cooled off with some date shakes at Charlie Brown Farms and picked up some Native American souvenirs at The Outpost! Definitely my ideal afternoon road trip.
