Wooyoungmi's Fall Collection is a Work of Art

Disclaimer: I'm a total nerd. When I found out that Wooyoungmi's Fall collection was inspired by Bauhaus, I got into a Wiki-hole of art history and I am about to drop some knowledge. The school of Bauhaus was an extraordinary development in the history of art, initiating a curriculum that attempted to bring together all disciplines of art into one "total" work. It exercised a large influence over subsequent movements in art, graphic design, architecture, and more, and is considered to be one of the most prominent developments in the Modernist movement. It makes sense then that designer Young Mi would pull inspiration from this renowned institution. She is groundbreaking and influential herself, holding the title of Korea's first female menswear designer. The exploration of form, lines, and function in Wooyoungmi's new collection is a testament to Bauhaus' preeminence. For Fall, the designer's clean shapes return in an array of flattering neutrals, creating the epitome of "looks good with everything" pieces. Blazers, pullovers, and leather details pair perfectly with pinstripe and color-blocked trousers. I'm always trying to explain to people that fashion is not just about clothes—it has serious artistic elements! And Wooyoungmi has made an excellent example.
