Bites on a Budget: $3.99 at Japadog

My two favorite cuisines are undoubtedly Japanese food and, although it pains me a little to admit, horribly unhealthy American fast food (aka: heart attack food). So as soon as I heard there was a restaurant named Japadogs, exactly two nights ago, I haven't stopped scanning their online picture menu, trying to decide which dog I was going to choose. (I am notoriously indecisive, so I need to plan these things before.)

Ready for a feast, my fellow blog intern Emily and I rushed over the moment lunchtime hit. I picked their most popular dog, the Kurobuta Terimayo ($3.99), a pork dog with Teriyaki sauce, seaweed, Japanese mayo, onions, and a satisfying dollop of wasabi mayo. Sure enought, it had the perfect savoury to sweet ratio—the sweet onions, spicy wasabi mayo, and salty pork hot dog were matches made in heaven.

Emily chose the Tonkatsu dog ($2.75), with deep fried pork cutlet marinated in Tomkatsu sauce and topped with fresh cabbage. As part of the combo meal ($7.00), it included butter shoyu fries which tasted weirdly like popcorn––in a good way––and were so good we considered ordering more. We concluded our meal by ordering an Age Ice to share ($2.99), a softly deep-fried, sugar-coated bun stuffed with three scoops of black sesame ice cream. One bite in it had me wishing we weren't sharing. What can I say? I'm greedy.

Despite the fact that New York is swiftly draining my bank balance, I'll be heading back to Japadogs very soon.

I had to try the Korobuta Terimayo, claimed to be one of the world's "must-eat items" on their menu!

This was actually too good for words. Our Age Ice—black sesame ice cream dog in a lightly-fried bun coated in sugar.
