Still recovering from your 4th of July festivities? We've got another excuse to party this weekend: Bastille Day! It was a difficult task to pick out our favorite French films, but we narrowed it down to classics by Godard, Malle, Truffaut, Rohmer, Kieslowski, Lamorisse, and Tati. So grab a baguette, some wine, cheese, and French fries (just kidding...) this July 14th and check out this round of French movies from the Criterion Collection at OC's Ace Hotel store.

Drop by Opening Ceremony at Ace Hotel to browse the complete Criterion Collection.

Band of Outsiders
One of Godard's most well-known films, Band of Outsiders tells the story of Odile, Franz, Arthur, and their plan to rob Odile's own home. This New Wave gangster film has some of the most memorable scenes of any film ever, including the footrace at the Louvre and the Madison dance sequence, referenced in Tarantino's Pulp Fiction

Monsieur Hulot's Holiday
Jacques Tati's awkwardly funny alter ego, Monsieur Hulot, takes the screen in Monsieur Hulot's Holiday. Just as it sounds, M. Hulot goes on vacation, but one filled with clumsy misadventures and mishaps. Tati's minimal dialogue and well choreographed scenes are Mr. Bean-esque, but with a French twist.

La Collectionneuse
La Collectionneuse is the fourth of Eric Rohmer's Six Moral Tales. It follows French dandy Adrien during his summer getaway at a Mediterranean villa and his irresistible attraction to his villa-mate Haydee—a collector of men. Her disinterest in Adrien and promiscuity adds to Adrien's inevitable attraction to her until he eventually convinces himself to seduce her.

The Red Balloon
Albert Lamorisse's short feature stars his actual son, Pascal, and his fascinating friendship with a red balloon. The two venture through the streets (and skies) of Paris with interesting encounters along the way. This charming film of flight is short and sweet, and will leave you in a state of wanderlust.

Murmur of the Heart

Laurent, a hormonally driven 14-year-old boy, has one clear topic in mind: sex. Eager to lose his virginity, he tries his hardest to get what he can, but struggles against his family's tight watch over him. Uncomfortably funny, Murmur of the Heart is a classic coming-of-age tale.

Jules and Jim
Best friends Jules and Jim become mesmerized by a statue of a goddess and her smile. Later along their travels, they meet Catherine—a free spirit and the statue's possible doppleganger. Jules and Jim follows the ups and downs of their love-entangled friendship.

The Three Colors: Blue
In hopes of starting over after losing her husband and son in a car crash, Julie tries to free herself from the past by remov
