Scott Sternberg's collections always tell a story, drawing inspiration from a specific reference (Fall: Billie Holiday; Spring: The Hunger Games). Some time before sitting down to design his pre-Fall collection for Boy by Band of Outsiders, he took a road trip to New Mexico's Lightning Field, the land art installation by American sculptor Walter De Maria. The resulting clothes are exactly would you should wear out in the wilds of Western New Mexico. There are long airy dresses in ditsy prints, chambray shirts, and soft sun-bleached plaids. Scott's other inspiration this season was Charlotte Rampling. Suiting has become one of the line's mega winners over seasons past, and pre-Fall's offering is some of the best yet—a tribute to the ultimate sixties babe in fine check and shrunken boyish shapes. This is definitely Boy at its most grown-up, and if that means getting to channel Ms. Rampling, sign us up!
