Loulou de la Falaise, known as YSL's muse, worked closely with the designer, greatly influencing his genius creations. The word muse is somewhat of a misnomer, however; in an interview with Italian Vogue, de la Falaise noted, “For me, a muse is someone who looks glamorous but is quite passive, whereas I was very hard-working.” Loulou was definitely more than just a pretty face with enviable style.
The half-British, half-French de la Falaise modeled for American Vogue in the late 60s, and moved to Paris in 1972 to join YSL’s haute couture house. Working side-by-side with YSL, Loulou is even credited with inspiring the revolutionary Le Smoking tuxedo suit for women. Loulou stuck by Yves’ side for three decades until she founded her own fashion business. Tomorrow would have been Loulou's 65th birthday; today we back at how she ruled the left bank in bohemian perfection.
