Words like icon and diva come to mind when describing Barbra Streisand. So does flawless. After getting her start as a nightclub singer in her teens, Barbra (then Barbara), quickly became a fixture throughout New York City. From singing at nightclubs in the Village, Streisand took her talent nationwide—The Tonight Show marked her first television appearance in 1961. The early 60s also saw Streisand’s rise to fame on Broadway, starring in Funny Girl. If you don’t count her rendition of “Don’t Rain On My Parade” among your all-time favorites, there’s something wrong with you. Funny Girl came to be her first film in 1968, and thus began her domination of the silver screen. The rest is fabulous, pitch-perfect history.

One of the few entertainers in history to EGOT, Barbra has received Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, AND a Tony—in other words, she’s reached the pinnacle of cultural relevance (Tracy Jordan, you have nothing on her). However, achieving this feat only seems natural of such a talent. With 33 studio albums, not counting live albums and other compilations, you have more than enough material to celebrate Barbra’s special day. Happy B-day, Babs!
