Jerzy Zielinski at OKO Gallery

Last Wednesday, a new show opened at OKO gallery in the East Village, displaying work by Jerzy "Jurry" Zieliński. The post-war Polish artist and poet, who passed away over twenty years ago due to mysterious circumstances, never had a show outside of Europe, but thanks to curator Alison Gingeras, that has now changed. The three paintings (pictured) are being shown for the first time in the US. The highly graphic works are based on a restricted color palette, and they're reminiscent of Tokyo avant-garde artists like Yokoo Tadanori, as well as psychedelic artists of his time such as Heinz Edelmann.

On view until May 4, 2013. Oko is open to the public Thursday through Saturday, 12-6 and by appointment.
