Tokyo Love Story: Introducing Jenny Fax

"The theme for spring is LOVE!" Jenny Fax designer Jen Fang told me last week. Jen's fifth collection has just arrived at OC, and we're super excited to be stocking the Tokyo-based line for the first time. A mash up of dolls, frills, and office wear, the pieces were inspired by 90s TV drama Tokyo Love Story. "I first watched it when I was 13 and it became a kind of bible for me." Just imagine a workwear wardrobe seen through the eyes of a Tokyo teenager. There are blouses, waistcoats, and A-line skirts, but made in sugary knits and gingham embroidered with chubby-cheeked dolls (because Jen always wanted a Cabbage Patch Kid).

Jenny Fax's aesthetic is often described as shōjo, meaning teenage girl, a Japanese word used to describe a specific bracket of tween manga and fashion. In the brand's spring runway presentation, a kawaii-fest that culminated in a glittery wedding spectacular, Jen's spin on the sub-culture took full form. "I believe that all women, even if they're 100 years old, are still shojo at heart," she says. Check out pictures from the Tokyo show below!
