Dylan Bailey at The National Exemplar

Is it ordered chaos or a random muddle of elements that make up Dylan Bailey's new canvases? I suppose we'll never know, and really it doesn't even matter—whatever the approach, the cosmic effect on the viewer is the same. Whether taken in from afar or up-close, there is a certain calmness to this series, almost as though you too are suspended in the artist's Matrix-like universe. Another lesson in viewing is his plasma-cut metal sculpture, a discarded remnant from an unknown industrial project. "I made these pieces in something like the way children construct imaginary worlds, allowing one idea to slide into the next," says Bailey.

The show runs until February 14th, 2012.
