OC x PFW: Jacquemus FW13

Let’s start at the end: Simon Porte of Jacquemus ran into the indoor swimming pool where he held his fall show last night, wearing pink shorts and dancing like his life depended on it. Needless to say, we love Simon, and his brilliant line Jacquemus. OK, back to the beginning. We were handed plastic shoe covers at the entrance to the steamy public pool, tucked away on a side street in the 11th arrondissement. There was some poetic justice to fashion folk being forced to cover their meticulously planned footwear, not surprising from a designer that did an entire 2011 collection inspired by factory uniforms.

Shoes duly covered, we perched at the edge of the piscine to watch the procession of girls wearing a strange vision of suburban après-swim. Plastic sandals, knee socks, wet hair, and black hats created the look, but the easy, basic separates stole the day. Jackets, pants, skirts, and overcoats in black, navy stripe, and red felt wearable and fresh. We love the way Simon subverts classic Gallic fashion tropes like the French flag palette and the striped shirt (called out by a sheer top spelling out le pull marine). These are real wardrobe basics, with a distinctive twist for right now.
