OC x NYFW: Patrik Ervell FW13

This Fall, Patrik Ervell leads us into a dark forest. This is no place for girls (Patrik presented his womenswear by lookbook this season); only the boldest of cadets need apply. And while elegant wool robes and tuxedo blazers aren’t usually packed for such adventures, the thick jackets, macintoshes, nylon pants, and envelope hats (made with Yestadt Millinery) looked the part, completely.

The print of the collection is of sprawling wildflowers and coarse greenery, seen on duffel coats, bombers jackets, backpacks, and even a pajama shirt. As for the hair, "I wanted it to look severe," said Patrik after the show, "even a little 90s." In many ways, the collection felt classically Patrik Ervell. The music for one: after seasons of calling on many of New York’s up-and-coming musicians to provide the show’s soundtrack, Patrik returned to the shoegaze sounds of Slowdive, mixed by Gang Gang Dance’s Brian DeGraw. "Slowdive is an old favorite of mine but I haven't played it [at my shows] for a while. Something about their music has always felt very pure. I think it made sense to play it this season," he commented.
