We checked in with Javier Peres of Peres Projects, currently in town for Art Los Angeles Contemporary, to catch his favorite spots around the city, exhibitors at the fair, and art world survival tips.

Attention LA art-lovers! Drop by the Opening Ceremony LA store this weekend to receive 10% off. Details here.

Dalya Benor: Hi Javier, welcome to LA! Do you have any rituals while visiting the city?
Javier Peres: Whole Foods in Venice, my favorite "restaurant."

DB: How did you curate your booth at Art Los Angeles Contemporary?
JP: This year, we focused on bringing together the works of Mark Flood, Dan Attow, and the late Dash Snow—all three artists employ text in their very different practices. They are three artists that I introduced to LA while I had a gallery here. It feels like a good time to bring them back.

DB: Which artists and galleries are you most excited to check out at the fair?
JP: There are many. I am a big Richard Jackson fan and am keen to see the David Kordansky Gallery solo presentation of his works. I also like Standard Gallery from Oslo, Jack Hanley from New York. The fair is looking really great this year.

DB: Generally speaking, which artists should we be keeping our eyes on?
JP: Well, from my program right now there is a lot happening with Alex Israel, Mark Flood, and David Ostrowski.

DB: If you could own any three pieces of artwork, which would they be?
JP: A sky painting by Alex Israel, a large text painting by Mark Flood, and a blue, abstract painting by David Ostrowski,

DB: Which city is the best city to be creating art in right now?
JP: It's a tie between Berlin and LA.

DB: What are three tips to surviving an art fair?
JP: Comfortable shoes (I only wear Nike), daily juicing, and a good night's sleep.

DB: What are three tips to surviving the art world?
JP: Plenty of rest, meditation, and time for daily reflection.
