Ever since Kirsten Dunst stepped out in a hand-painted Patrik Ervell tuxedo, the hype surrounding the designer’s womenswear debut has been overwhelming. And now it’s here. In perfect harmony with her male counterpart, the Patrik woman is modern, clean-cut, and effortlessly cool. For fall, military pieces—shiny pleather flight suits, and bombers—are softened with delicate floral prints and exquisite hand-splashed silks, all mixed in with scaled-down versions of Patrik menswear classics (so now you can give your boyfriend his sweater back).
We asked Patrik a few questions about getting in touch with his feminine side, and fawned over these exclusive images of the collection, shot by KT Auleta on the second floor of Patrik's (and OCNY's) very own building!

Alice Newell-Hanson: Why womenswear? And why now?
Patrik Ervell: I've always had a significant women's following with my menswear so it felt like a natural evolution to start doing women's.
ANH: What is the dialogue happening between Patrik men's and women's?
PE: I think it's all coming from the same place. It's not so much a his and hers approach. I think there are parts of the men's collection that bleed into the women's and vice versa.
ANH: What were you most excited to experiment with or feature in the women's collection?
PE: Fabrics are a big part of what I do. And there is a lot more opportunity to use experimental fabrics in womenswear—the hand-painted silk shirts we have in this collection, for example. When you see that fabric up close it doesn't look like anything you've ever seen before in a garment.
ANH: Do you have a favorite piece?
PE: I really love the silk bomber jacket, for men and for women.
ANH: How would you describe the woman you design for?
PE: Like the men's customer, she probably isn't a major follower of trends. It's someone who appreciates the aesthetic of the brand and the quality of the fabrics and the construction.
